Privacy Policy
Updated:
This policy explains how the Mote iPhone app, companion Apple Watch app and website handle information. Mote requires no account. Recording and transcription use on-device processing; optional AI services are configured and enabled by you.
Recordings, people and voice profiles
With your microphone permission, Mote records and locally stores and processes audio, transcripts, speaker IDs, names and notes, identity associations, dictionary entries and summaries. These contents are not automatically uploaded to Mote servers.
After confirming a person's identity, you can add eligible voice features to a local voice-profile library for matching across recordings. Uncertain matches require confirmation; automatic associations can be corrected or cleared and samples removed. This is an in-app matching feature, not an identity authentication service. Voice profiles are not uploaded to Mote servers.
Model downloads and website visits
Fast transcription models ship with the app; high-quality models are downloaded on request. Download and network providers receive information needed to serve files, such as IP address, request time and path. Download requests do not contain recordings or transcripts.
Vercel hosts the website and Cloudflare delivers model files. This infrastructure may process network requests and security logs. The website does not request microphone access; its interactive demo uses fictional content. We do not integrate advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. The site selects a language using your browser preferences. Switching languages saves a preference cookie for up to one year; you can delete it in your browser.
Optional AI services
You may configure your own API key, HTTPS service address and model. The key is stored in your device's Keychain and is not sent to Mote servers. When you actively generate a summary and confirm, that recording's transcript, including speaker IDs and timestamps, is sent to your configured provider. Audio is not uploaded. Connection tests send only test text.
The provider processes requests under its own policies and may charge fees. Responses requests disable response storage, but this does not guarantee that the provider retains no data. Review its policies before enabling it. Summaries are stored locally and deleted with recordings; local deletion does not remove content already received by the provider.
Watch, sharing and backups
Watch recordings sync to iPhone through Apple's paired-device transfer mechanisms. Audio or text you choose to share is processed by the selected app or service under its policies. System backups depend on your Apple settings. Shared copies and backups must be managed separately in the relevant services.
Managing and retaining data
Local data remains until you delete the recording or related information. You can delete recordings and transcripts; edit, merge or delete people and associations; remove voice samples in person details; edit or delete dictionary entries; and revoke microphone access in system settings. Export important content first. Uninstalling removes data in the app container. API keys are stored in the system Keychain: clear them in AI settings when no longer needed rather than relying on uninstalling.
Mote has no cloud recording account and cannot restore your recordings from a server or delete recordings on your device for you. Hosting, download and AI providers retain logs according to their own policies; we do not promise a particular retention period for them.
Beta feedback and contact
Apple handles TestFlight crash information and feedback under its policies and may provide it to the developer. When you email us, we receive your address, message and attachments to respond to and handle your request. Include only what is needed to investigate; do not send private recordings or API keys.
Use the email below for privacy questions, requests concerning support information you supplied, or problems. We update the date on this page when the policy changes and provide relevant notices in features that introduce new data uses.
